THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT – WHAT IS KINDNESS?
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!â€
Galatians 5:22-23(NLT)
Main Text:
The Greek word for kindness is “chrestotes”. It means benignity, tender concern, uprightness and goodness of heart. It is the kindness of heart and kindness of act. Kindness is the characteristic that led God to provide salvation for us.
Titus 3:4-5 “However, when God our Savior made his kindness and love for humanity appear, he saved us, but not because of anything we had done to gain his approval. Instead, because of his mercy he saved us through the washing in which the Holy Spirit gives us new birth and renewal.” Kindness leads God to give green pastures, quiet waters and the restoration of our souls when we are weary according to Psalm 23:2-3 (KJV)
When we exhibit the kindness of God, we are tender, benevolent, and useful to others. Every action, every word will have the flavor of grace in it. It’s God’s tender care that makes Him want to gather us under his wings to protect us and keep us close to Him. Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.” (KJV)
On multiple occasions, kindness induced Jesus to stop what He was doing and help others in need if you read Mark 6:34 (NLT)
As believers, constant and daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit allows His nature rub off on us. In the natural, when we hang around a group of smokers, we smell like smoke, likewise, in the spiritual, when we relate with the Spirit of God, God’s nature of kindness rubs off on us.
Ephesians 4:31-32 “Let all bitter, sharp and angry feeling, and noise, and evil words, be put away from you, with all unkind acts;...” (BBE) Jesus Christ practiced kindness that was radical for that time and culture. He always had great concern for women as well as men, for children as well as adults, for other races as well as the Jewish race, and for the sick and weak as well as the strong. Often He wore Himself out praying for people, healing people, feeding people and helping them in other ways. Therefore, having received the Holy Spirit of truth, we must decide today to walk in kindness via the power of the Holy Ghost.
Confession: The Spirit of truth abides in me and teaches me all things and He guides me into all truths therefore, I confess I have perfect knowledge of every situation that I come up against. I trust in the Lord with all mine heart and I lean not on my own understanding, I acknowledge the Lord. The word of Christ dwells in me richly, therefore I walk in kindness.
