DOING BUSINESS IN GREAT WATERS

“They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.”
Ps 107:23-24
Main Text: MAIN TEXT: John 19:28-30

God desires for His people to do business in great waters. Scripturally, those who "do business in great waters" are described as individuals who embark on voyages across the seas, undertaking significant endeavors far from the safety of the shore. This imagery symbolizes stepping out in faith and embracing opportunities that require courage, trust in God, and a willingness to explore new territories. To "do business in great waters" goes beyond merely traveling overseas for economic gain or adventure. It represents engaging in ventures that stretch us, challenge our faith, and open doors to experience the mighty works of God. However, what does it mean to do business in Great waters?

In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gave a powerful command to His followers: “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel, making disciples of all men.” This directive, known as the Great Commission, is a call to every believer to actively engage in the mission of spreading the gospel and making disciples across the globe. When we think about "doing business in great waters," we can understand it as a metaphor for this very command. It signifies stepping out into the world, beyond our comfort zones, to carry out the work of God. Just as those who sail the great seas witness the wonders of the ocean and the might of the waves, those who give themselves to missions and evangelism experience the mighty works and wonders of the Lord.

To engage in "business in great waters" is to commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the mission of God, whether it’s reaching out to those across the street or those across the seas. It involves a willingness to go wherever God calls us, whether it’s a foreign land, an underserved community, or any place where the gospel has yet to be fully known.

Those who "do business in great waters" are promised the opportunity to see the works of the Lord and His wonders. This doesn’t only mean seeing grand miracles, but also recognizing the small, daily miracles of changed hearts, restored relationships, and new life in Christ. By giving ourselves to missions and the saving of souls, we engage in the profound art of making disciples. This is the heart of doing business in great waters—being part of God’s redemptive plan for humanity and witnessing His power at work in the lives of people from every nation, tribe, and tongue.

Confession

In the Name of Jesus, I boldly declare I dedicate myself to the ministry of soul winning and evangelism, passionately sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. I am committed to reaching the lost, leading them to salvation, and helping them grow in their faith. I step out in faith, engaging in spiritual endeavors that reach far and wide. Just as one does business in deep waters, I courageously navigate uncharted territories for the Kingdom of God, trusting in His guidance and provision. I am not afraid to take bold steps to fulfill my calling and expand the reach of the gospel.
