THE POWER OF NAMES

"Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he..."
1 Samuel 25:25
Main Text:

A "name" is that by which a person, place or thing is marked and known. In Scripture, names were generally descriptive of the person, of his position, of some circumstance affecting him, hope entertained concerning him, etc., so that "the name" often came to stand for the person. The name you bear is crucial because it can serve as a pillar to rise or fall. The Bible says "As his name is, so is he". This means the name of that gentleman affected everything about him, that his wife had to tell the King that the reason for his folly was because of his name. This speaks volumes to me. His name meant "stupid" and everything he did was built on the bench of stupidity.

The story of Jabez is another factor we should consider, his name meant sorrow, that means, everything about him was sorrowful. Consequently, he couldn't take it anymore and turned to the God of Jacob then his story changed. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Jabez called out to the God of Israel: “If only You would bless me, extend my border, let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm, so that I will not cause any pain.” And God granted his request." (HCSB). In addition, it's worthy to note that Jabez prayed to the God of Israel because the God of Israel changed the name of Jacob to Israel. The God of Israel is a name Changer.

Jacob means "to supplant" and that name affected everything about him, however when his name was changed to Israel, his story changed and he became a prince with God. Genesis 32:24-28

Names are important because they represent who we are. Our names affect us subconsciously. The Angel told Mary, you shall name him Jesus because he will take away the sin of the world, and Jesus did exactly what his name signified (Matthew 1:21).

Jesus has given us a new name. God has named us with His name, therefore, no ancestral curse can have dominion over you. Ephesians 3:14-15 "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named." (HCSB). You bear the name of God, you are unstoppable.

Confession; I am a new creature, I bear a new name- the name of the Lord Jesus. I am blessed!

Prayer: No demon will manipulate my name for evil in the name of Jesus
