THE DANGER OF PRAYERLESSNESS
“The men of Israel looked them over and accepted the evidence. But they didn't ask God about it.”
Joshua 9:14 (MSG)
Main Text: Main text: Psalm 5:3
Prayer is the lifeblood of a Christian's walk with the Lord. It connects us to God, fosters love and connection with others, and creates space in our hearts for God's guiding voice. Scripture urges us to pray continuously (1 Thessalonians 5:17), making anything less than a continuous attitude of prayer and communication with God sinful.
Prayerlessness is contradictory to a healthy relationship with God. God's people should naturally desire to communicate with their Lord. Psalm 5:3 declares, "In the morning, You hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning, I prepare a prayer, a sacrifice for You and watch and wait for You to speak to my heart." Ignoring the gift of intercession that God has given us, we are called to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ (James 5:16).
In many instances in Scripture, we observe that Israel's failure to consult the Lord resulted in dire consequences. Their suffering could have been avoided had they prayed and sought God's guidance. By neglecting to inquire of the Lord, they fell victim to deception and lacked discernment. No matter how promising a situation may seem, turning to God in prayer should always be the first step.
Confession:
I am led by the Spirit; therefore, I choose to take my directions from the Lord. I am disciplined to wait on Him and make right choices by obeying His voice. In Jesus' name, Amen.
