THE POWER OF WORDS

“How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?”
Job 6:25
Main Text: Main text: Hebrews 11:3

Words are more than mere sounds shaped by our mouths as air passes through the larynx; they hold real power. God demonstrated this when He spoke the world into existence (Hebrews 11:3). Created in His image, we, too, possess words that carry influence. Our words do more than convey information; they can profoundly impact others. Words can lift spirits or burden them, stir love or incite hatred, heal or hurt. They have the potential to reopen old wounds or even create new ones. Among all creatures, humans alone have the gift of communication through spoken words—an extraordinary and powerful gift from God.

Our words hold the power to both destroy and build up. Proverbs 12:6 reminds us of this, while Proverbs 18:21 emphasizes that “the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Are we using our words to uplift or to tear down? Do our words convey hate or love, bitterness or blessing, complaints or compliments, lust or purity, victory or defeat? Words are powerful tools that can shape lives for the better, but like any tool, they can also be misused. The principle of the "law of first mention" in Genesis 1 shows us God’s purpose for words: God spoke, God called, and God blessed. Words are divinely intended for declaring, calling forth, and blessing.

Our words lay the foundation for our prosperity and the prosperity of others. We must ensure that our words carry the grace of God, allowing the transformative power of the Spirit to work through them. When our speech aligns with God’s grace, it uplifts, edifies, and brings life to those who hear it.

Confession:

I decree, I am blessed and highly favored of the Lord. When others say there is a casting down, I declare there is a lifting up! I am highly favored of the Lord, in Jesus' name, Amen.
