DECLARE IT IS WELL EVEN WHEN IT’S NOT SO
“… Let the weak say “I am strongâ€.
Joel 3: 10
Main Text:
Some years ago, I watched an interesting movie titled “Meet Joe Black”. Some real-life issues were creatively painted in the movie. “Death” featured as a man and came to take a particular wealthy man. Out of fear and confusion, the man asked “Death”, “Why is it that it is me you came for?” Then “Death” replied; “because, each time you talked, you always said you wish you had me. One way or the other, you have always wanted me. And that is why I have come to live with you and take you eventually”. As expected, “Death” actually took the man.
Today, many have run into life-threatening situations all at the instance of what they said – consciously, subconsciously or unconsciously. Numbers 14: 28 tells us that the Israelites (God’s own people) said they would never reach the Promised Land and God said “As you have spoken in my hearing so shall I do”. Of course, hundreds of thousands of them perished in the wilderness. In Num. 13: 33 also, the ten of the twelve spies said they were like grasshoppers and because of their confession, they were, too.
The power of word cannot be trivialized. Most of us have neglected the Word of God only to confess the words of men. Some parents are fond of raining curses or abusive words on their wards and no wonder they misbehave. There is nothing like joking with words. If God could honour His words more than His names then there are things more than just speaking. Guard your heart diligently because life comes out of it. Do not be careless with words; they are powerful instruments to life.
Beloved, words have a force that backs them up. Even unbelievers know this as a fact. If word made all things, then words can mar some many things if carelessly handled. I’d love you to follow James’ advice which says, “Tame your tongue”.
Prayer: Help me to tame my tongue. I reverse every negative word that I have uttered in Jesus name.
