Main Text:
As we acknowledge the goodness of the Lord for His covenant of life with us, I want to consider here some of the characteristics of covenant challengers as seen in the life and conduct of Absalom. Absalom was a member of the king’s household – his own son – whom you would expect to wish the king well. So, a covenant challenger can be a member of the church, or an unbeliever. The sad part is that covenant challengers who operate from within the household of faith have a greater chance of succeeding in their evil design than the ones that operate from outside. For instance, the Lord gives the covenant of peace to brother “A” and his family. If someone that brother “A” knows to be a church member that is always drinking and getting drunk comes to tell him, “Thus saith the Lord, Beware of your wife because she is a witch and wants to ruin you”, most likely, the brother will quickly ask him which lord spoke to you – whether the bottles of beer you just finished is disturbing you or maybe you are suffering a hangover. Of course he will not give those words a second thought. However, let a pious-looking sister come and give brother “A” the same message. It’s possible that he will immediately believe her (especially if she says that the Lord spoke to her when she was praying late in the night). He then starts thinking of the difficulties he has been facing, and linking them to his wife (who might turn out to be an innocent child of God that wishes her husband the very best in life). Suspicion sets in, the brother begins to act in a strange way, the peace they have enjoyed before begins to disappear..
Another thing about covenant challengers is that they are wicked but patient schemers. May God expose their evil plans over your life in Jesus name.
Prayer: Lord silence all my covenant challengers by fire
