RAISING A LEGACY: THE POWER OF PARENTAL INFLUENCE
“Tell your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons the next generation.”
Joel 1:3
Main Text: Main Text: Proverbs 22:6
When God blesses parents with a child, He entrusts them with a sacred responsibility: to raise that child in His ways and to establish a foundation built upon Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 6:1-2, 7). This task isn’t completed after a child’s dedication but continues throughout their lives. Our role as parents includes daily prayers for our children, guiding them toward committing their own lives to the Lord (Job 1:5). Praying with and for our children should be a routine, not just a ritual—inviting God into their lives through every season.
The most powerful influence on our children’s spiritual growth is the godly example we set. Proverbs 20:7 says, “The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.” This blessing flows because the children witness a life worth emulating—a life marked by godliness, integrity, and faith. As parents, our actions speak louder than our words, so we must strive to live as examples of Christ in everything we do.
Building godly character in your children is one of the greatest gifts you can give them for life. Our kids are watching us, learning how to live from our behavior. If we want them to be honest, we must model honesty. If we expect them to exercise self-control, they must see it in us. Diligence, integrity, patience, and kindness—these are not just lessons we teach with words, but virtues we must demonstrate with our actions.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to live in a way that honors You and to raise my children in the fear of the Lord. Amen.
