THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – WHAT IS JOY? 1

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23(NIV)
Main Text:

Literally, the “fruit of the Spirit” is what happens when the Holy Spirit indwells a believer. Fruit is a product from a seed. The fruit of the Spirit is the product from the seed “The Holy Spirit” in the heart of a believer. Galatians 5:22-23 describes what that fruit is and the second characteristics listed is Joy. The Greek word for Joy is “Chara” and “Chairo” to rejoice. Joy is the natural reaction to the work of God whether promised or fulfilled. Joy is different from happiness. Joy is spiritual, happiness relates to the good works occurring around us. Joy expresses the kingdom of God – His influence on the earth. Romans 14:17For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (ASV) The Spirit produces joy in diverse ways. 1 Samuel 2:1:“Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.” (NIV)

Acts 12:14:“When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, "Peter is at the door!" (NIV)

When God protects or sets someone free, rejoicing becomes the order of the day. Our greatest reason to be joyful is that God wants to save us and spend eternity with us, nothing beats this! Luke 15:7: “Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. (ESV)

Confession:  Blessed be God, I am joyous, I walk in joy, the joy of the Lord is my strength therefore, I am not frail, I am not weak, I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Glory to God
