BEWARE OF TOO MUCH SLEEP
“Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.â€
Proverbs 20:13
Main Text:
It’s very important that you examine your life periodically to be sure you are still in faith in this your earthly journey. You can never attain greatness if you ignore self-check.
One of the greatest enemies of your soul is too much sleep, I mean sleeping excessively. If you will show yourself a token of love, then you must learn to control the number of hours you spend sleeping. Remember, we are all allocated the same number of hours, so when you see others progressing well, ask them the number of hours they put into their work, and into the Word of God.
It’s no good to sleep while others are working! If you abandon your assignment to sleep in the name of observing rest, you may end up in a financial asylum without knowing. I am not saying rest is bad anyway, but mind the time hours allocated please. Poverty hits the lazy hands but the hands of the diligent shall be fat. “He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.” Proverbs 10:5.
Consider what you do with your time. You can either waste or invest your time correctly. If your investment is to sleep and sleep away, you will soon find yourself in abject poverty both physically and spiritually.
Sleeping spiritually connotes giving yourself over to laziness as it relates to spiritual development and personal growth. Your prayer life, study of the Word, evangelism and general growth before the Lord should be a daily concern to you. If you lack steady growth in any of these areas, you have gone asleep. Take your time to engage in spiritual exercise while the time lasts. Reject laziness when it comes to serving the Lord.
“How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?” (Proverbs 6:9).
Prayer: Father, deliver my destiny from evil sleep and wake me up to my responsibility on earth
