THE SIN OF PRIDE

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 14:11
Main Text: Main text: Ezekiel 28:15

The sin of pride is the first iniquity that ever rose its head in the annals of time. It is interesting to note that before Adam and Eve fell, the sin of pride was already committed. Lucifer, once a mighty angel before the Lord, succumbed to this grave sin. The scripture vividly describes his initial state: “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. - Ezek 28:15” What iniquity was discovered? The sin of pride. This tragic transformation indicates the fact that it is possible to start off well and end in the iniquity of pride.

In the Garden of Eden, pride also played a pivotal role. When the serpent tempted Eve, he appealed to her pride, suggesting that eating the forbidden fruit would make her like God, knowing good and evil. This subtle manipulation ignited a desire for a false demonic wisdom and status that led to the disobedience of both Eve and Adam. Thus, the fall of humanity began with the same sin that caused Lucifer's downfall.

The sin of pride is insidious, often masquerading as self-confidence or ambition. It can lead individuals to overestimate their abilities, disregard the needs of others, and ultimately, distance themselves from the grace of God. History is replete with examples of individuals and nations that have fallen from great heights due to pride. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, for instance, was driven to madness because of his pride, only regaining his sanity after acknowledging the sovereignty of God.

Confession:

I declare, I remain in humility before the Lord, and my horn is exalted like the horn of the unicorn. Amen. In the Name of Jesus, I come before You with a humble heart, acknowledging Your greatness and my dependence on You. I choose to walk in humility, recognizing that all I have and all I am is because of Your grace and mercy.

1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
