DON’T BE IN STRANGE CLOTHE
“…I will punish the princes and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.â€
Zephaniah 1:8
Main Text:
If you are a prince, son of an earthly king, there should be something in your appearance that should tell everyone that you carry royalty. So it is with us as princes and princesses, children of the King of kings. Our appearance should command dignity, depict our status as joint-heirs with Jesus, the first among many brethren. But apparently many of us “wear clothes” that are not allowed in God’s palace, our minds are so terrible with all sorts of dirt.
Now what does the King mean by “strange apparels? He’s referring to “clothes” that He never puts on and which He hates to see on His princes and princesses because He finds them irritating. Such “clothes” include pride, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, malice, guile, hypocrisies, evil speakings, lying, bitterness, backbiting, disobedience to parents, etc. Are you putting on any of these or are there any of them that are not seen on you now but are hanging somewhere in your “closet” waiting to be put on whenever the flesh chooses? Please get rid of them right away because the King says He will punish all His children who “wear” such “clothes”.
What then does He expect us to “wear”? Romans 13:14 gives us the answer. It says “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ…” In other words, instead of strange apparels God wants us to be dressed with Jesus (His nature, character, and lifestyle) and everything He stands for. Philippians 2:5-8 “ Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”.
