DON’T HINDER ANYONE
“But Jesus said, suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto Me; for of such is the kingdom of heavenâ€
Matthew 19:14
Main Text:
Has it struck anyone’s imagination that when disasters occur on a minor or major scale, children are not spared? The unfortunate termination of the lives of those children who couldn’t make salvation decision with God is painful. Well only God can decide what happens on the judgment day. The heart cry of Jesus to all is for the entire humanity to be saved, and no one should hinder the salvation plan of God. In our passage, parents desperately wanted the children to come to Jesus that He might touch them and bless them. The disciples on the other hand chose to send them away because they thought Jesus had much more important things to do and that children were insignificant in the scheme of Christ’s Kingdom. Jesus rebuked the disciples and used this as an opportunity to teach the disciples and others that to receive the kingdom, we must have the mind of little children: characterized by trusting simplicity, unassuming humility and meekness. The lesson of how to receive and be a partaker of the kingdom of God was brought home succinctly by the rich young ruler that came to Jesus. He asked the right question: what can I do to have eternal life? After enumerating the good things he claimed to be doing, he knew there was still a lack, Jesus quickly explained to him that giving up all his earthly inheritance to follow Him is vital to eternal life. He was not willing to sell all that he had to get the great treasure of eternal life in Christ. Are you in the position of this man not willing to surrender all to Christ? Why not spend a few minutes to ask Jesus this same question “what lack I yet?†Are you humble enough to make Jesus the pillar of your life in child-like simplicity? Are you willing to subject everything to Him and let Him be your Lord in all things? Decide now. Prayer: Help me O Lord to lead the children around alright.
