THE BEST WINE

“and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
John 2:10 (NIV)
Main Text: Main text:John 2:12

There is a wine better than alcohol—a wine that intoxicates more deeply and has a higher impact than any red or white wine. This is the spiritual wine that Jesus provides. At the wedding at Cana in Galilee, Jesus demonstrated God's profound love for humanity. Even when it seemed like God didn't intend to release a blessing at that moment, the intercession of Mary moved Jesus to perform a miracle. This story shows that God desires to save His people from shame and that when He intervenes, He brings out the best.

Isaiah 55:1 says, "Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price." This invitation speaks of the Holy Spirit, who is freely given to us by Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the best wine—He fills, satisfies, and intoxicates in a way that nothing else can. When we approach the Lord and ask for His Spirit, He freely gives Him to us. As Jesus said in John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." Refusing to be filled by the Spirit is to deny oneself the fullness of life and guidance that only He can provide.

Ephesians 5:18-19 states, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." This passage encourages us to be filled with the Holy Spirit—the best wine—rather than being intoxicated with earthly substances. The scriptures outline the steps to be filled with this divine wine, urging us to immerse ourselves in spiritual worship. By being filled with the Spirit and engaging in heartfelt praise through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, we are empowered to minister to the Lord with sincerity and truth. Allowing yourself to be filled with the Spirit opens up a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, enabling you to serve and worship Him more accurately and fully.

Confession:

I am filled with the Holy Spirit, who empowers and guides me in every aspect of my life. His presence within me brings wisdom, strength, and comfort, enabling me to walk in alignment with God’s will. I am filled with the best wine, the new wine of the Spirit. Just as Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana, He has transformed my life, filling me with His joy, peace, and overflowing abundance. I choose to die to the flesh daily, crucifying my sinful desires and passions. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I live a life that honors God, walking in righteousness, purity, and obedience to His Word.
