GIVE HIM THANKS
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Proverbs 6: 5
Main Text:
You need to see how unbelievers give thanks to their gods in their own ways and quite amazing is, their commitment – “passion” is the word. They may not know Jesus yet but they acknowledge and show gratitude to their ancestors.
Incredibly, the way we believers render worship to God lacks some commitment and passion. I find it difficult to understand why we find it hard to worship God in a way that will bring down His presence in our midst. You can’t give thanks to God just anyhow, your passion and commitments are required. Imagine the way David danced before God such that his wife thought he was undermining his royal status? Passion. You can give thanks to God in the great assembly (Ps. 35; 18). You can give thanks to God at the table – Jn. 6:11, or even at the grave side as Jesus did at Lazarus’ tomb in John 11.
Why should we give thanks to God? We should give thanks to God for the gift of life we enjoy daily (Prov. 6:5). You sleep, dream, snore and wake up just like that everyday. Don’t you think that you should thank God for not breathing or passing urine or eating with a pipe or tube? Please be thankful to God!
Beloved, the Bible says let everything that has breath praise the Lord. A thankful heart will always have more from God. Give Him thanks for victory over death (I Cor. 15:57). Give Him thanks for it is a command to obey (Ps. 50:14 and 95:2). Let us give Him thanks today because it is a good thing to do (Ps. 92:1). You can never access the courtyard of God without first of all entering His gates with thanksgiving. (Ps. 100; 4); thanksgiving precedes praise.
Give Him thanks because of His mercies that endure forever (Ps. 136: 26).
May the Lord give you cause to give Him thanks today in Jesus’ name.
Prayer: Let your praises continually dwell in my mind O Lord
