EXTRAVAGANT WORSHIP

“And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment. And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment."
Luke 7:37-38 (KJV)
Main Text: Psalm 63:1-5

Everyone in town knew her as a sinful woman, but her selfless display of extravagant worship changed how everyone remembered her now. Jesus was in a town called Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon. When she got information that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume oil, she kissed his feet, wept, used her hair to wipe her tears off his feet and she poured the perfume on His feet as a sign of adoration.

1 Chronicles 16:34"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." (NIV) Psalm 95:6 "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker."(NIV) Imagine the depth of this woman's tears being enough to clean the dusty feet of Jesus. Imagine the gratitude that moved her to display her devotion and adoration towards the Man reclining at the table.  She had heard him teach of the Kingdom, she had understood the heart of the Lord, she had been delivered from her old way of life through His loving acceptance of her. With tears rolling down her cheeks and a sobbing heart she washed the Lord's feet as a sign of honor, she perfumed His feet with oil from an alabaster jar that was valued a year's wage. Her love for the Master knew no bounds. She had to express herself the best way possible which resulted in an extravagant worship. Psalm 63:1 "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (NIV
