SO THAT YOU WILL NOT FALL
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation…†(NIV).
Matthew 26:41
Main Text:
From the perspective of three of the attributes of our God we will look at how prayer helps us to stay on top. Prayer is an act of communicating/communing/connecting with God through petition, devotion, confession, praise, adoration, contrition, or thanksgiving. To actually commune with God we have to be in His presence. Now, in several scriptures, including Isaiah 6:3, our God is described as holy. This means that being prayerful keeps us in the presence of a holy God. The truth is that the more you dwell in the presence of this holy God the more His holiness extend to you. Being in His presence makes you want to remain within the confines of His Word and not do anything contrary to it. And if you are holy Satan will have no power over you (John 14:30) and so he cannot resist you like he did to Joshua the high priest who was dressed in filthy garments (Zechariah 3:1and 3). Even when the enemy makes an effort to pull you down, you have the boldness to challenge him and insist on being where the Lord has put you because Proverbs 28:1 says that righteous people are as bold as a lion. Again, according to Psalm 34:15 and 17, “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry” and “The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
Being prayerful keeps us in the presence of a powerful God. The Psalmist said in Psalm 27:4-5, “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His sacred tent and set me high upon a rock”
Prayer: Help me to remain in You
