ALLOS PARAKLETOS 1

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”
John 14:16 (KJV)
Main Text:

The phrase translated “another comforter” in the above verse is called Allos Parakletos in the Greek. ‘Allos” is a Greek word which means “another” and “Parakletos” which means “comforter”. In the Greek language, there’s another word that can be used to translate “another” and that is “Heteros”.  Jesus chose to use Allos in describing the Holy Spirit as a comforter rather than Heteros and the reason is this; Heteros means “another of a different kind” while Allos means “another of the same kind”.

By calling the Holy Spirit Allos, Jesus was simply saying the Holy Spirit was exactly like Him. The disciples where downcast that their Lord was leaving, they didn’t know when next they would see him again, they weren’t sure of the miracles will cease or continue all they knew was Jesus’s time was up on the earth - they were in mourning.

Jesus realizing this, said to them in John 14:18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (KJV) At this point even though they were downcast, they knew in their hearts that they knew that even though their comforter, master, and friend Jesus was leaving, another one who was exactly like him was going to take his place to comfort, counsel, help, intercede for, advocate for, strengthen, and be a stand-by support for them. John 14:16“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever” (AMP)

Confession:  I am a believer, therefore, I have the Holy Spirit, I hear His voice and obey Him always. Jesus loves me, God loves me, I am not comfortless, glory to God my Father.
