WHAT IS THE TRUTH? 1

“Pilate said, “What is truth?” Then he went out to the Jewish leaders again and said to them, “I can find nothing against this man.”
John 18:38 (ERV)
Main Text:

Almost two thousand years ago, the Truth was put on trial and judged by people who were devoted to lies. In fact, Truth faced six trials in one day; three of which were religious, and there were legal. However, it’s important to note one of the most important questions asked by the prosecutor, what is truth? It’s important we understand what the truth is not. Truth is not simply whatever works; this is an idea of pragmatism. The Truth is not simply what is coherent or understandable. Truth is not what makes people feel good – unfortunately bad news can be true. Truth is not defined by what is intended neither is it how we know nor what is believed. Truth is not what is publicly proven. The Greek word for truth is “Aletheia” which literally means, hiding nothing. It conveys the thought that truth is always there, always open and available for all to see with nothing being hidden or obscure. The Hebrew word for truth is “Emeth” which means firmness, constancy and duration. Such definition implies an everlasting substance of what can be relied on.  Therefore, what is the truth? John 17:17;Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (NIV)

Pilate didn’t know he stood before the Truth, as a Roman, he probably believed in the philosophical perspective of truth, he wasn’t spiritual enough to see the truth even though it stood before him. It wasn’t his fault He was blinded, 2 Corinthians 4:4 “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” He believed truth by what could be publicly proven. Beloved, how do you too perceive the Truth?

Confession: Glory to God, I am blessed, I have the Word, therefore I treasure it. I enjoy truth all the days of my life.

Prater: May I not compromise the Truth I know in his year 2020
